NEED TO HAVE ACCESS TO INFORMATION ADAPTED TO AGE AND QUESTIONS

When faced with expressions of sadness, anxiety, confusion, or delirium, young relatives need to understand what is happening. It is always best if explanations come directly from the person who is ill. But when this is not possible, and even if the person does not recognize their illness, it is important to provide young relatives with information to help them understand the situation in which they are involved.

If their questions go unanswered, they will try to fill the void and answer them themselves. Often, especially among younger people, they will think they are responsible for their loved one's health problems.

"A young relative needs to be told that they are not responsible for their relative's health condition."

Paula, 6 years old

"Is it because I wasn't good enough that Mom went to the hospital?"
