ANTICIPATING SEPARATION TIMES FROM YOUR CHILD DURING HOSPITALIZATION
For the child, this period of separation can be very anxiety-provoking, especially if they witnessed the symptoms that led to hospitalization and were not given any explanation. Some children may have found themselves, without any preparation, at the home of a family member or in an institution they didn't know.
If your child(ren) knows that the decision was made with your agreement and that you considered who to entrust them to, they will experience things more peacefully. They will also know that even if you are not home, you are taking care of them. Rebuilding your relationship after this period of separation will then be easier.
MY PARENTS' GPS
Taking advantage of moments of calm and well-being to anticipate and communicate your choices is the idea behind advance directives. These directives allow you, in the event of a parent's hospitalization, to express your wishes regarding the care of your child(ren). While advance directives do not have legal standing in themselves, they allow the person to whom you entrust MonGPS to communicate your choices to healthcare professionals at a time when it might be difficult for you to do so yourself.
