OVERCOMING THE FEAR OF HOW PEOPLE LOOK AT ONE'S PARENTING

The primary need is to be seen first and foremost as a parent, and not reduced to their illness. Fear of judgment can lead some parents to avoid ordinary parenting situations, such as attending a parent-teacher meeting at the daycare or a school parent-teacher conference. This avoidance, however, reinforces the discriminatory views of some professionals who may interpret it as neglect or a lack of involvement in their parental role. There is therefore a very real and documented difficulty, and we hope to contribute to changing perceptions and help you overcome this fear.

Rodolphe and Laurence want a child, but is it reasonable when they both suffer from bipolar disorder? Together, they set out to find answers. Their quest and questions may resonate with those of many parents.

Liquid Mood, a film by Rodolphe Viémont, 2016

"We say 'fragile parents.' I think we should say: 'parents aware of this responsibility.' When we gain confidence, we gain in understanding others."
